How we train Flyball

Awesome Pawsome trains on Friday evenings at the Mt Gravatt showground (which is located on Logan Road between Wishart and Broadwater Roads).  We use a station approach to training with different areas of training covered in each station.    The stations that are out on any one training night may not be the same from night to night, with stations sometime rotating based on the needs of members at the time.  In line with good practice of warming up your dog before getting into intense physical activity, the night almost always starts with the Warm-up station. After his depending on numbers, we may train as a single group, or split into a few groups with each group working on different station, and rotating to another station after 15 minutes.

Ideally, each group will be composed of a mixture of beginners, novice and more experienced members and their dogs.  Each station usually needs some people to put their dog away for part of the session, and help out handling box-loading or some other task.  Most stations have a version of the activity that is suitable for beginners to start learning, or to assist with a support function (like box loading, taking statistics, holding a dog etc).

In 2008 we plan to introduce a buddy system, when a more experienced flyballer, pairs up with a newer person to help them learn the ropes.  We are in the process of conducting train the trainer course every second Sunday Morning, so more people are qualified to buddy up with, and help a less experienced member train their dog.
